About this deal

Again similar to the Backlight, the First Light didn’t help keep my oils at bay, but it managed to keep my makeup in place. It’s a nice ingredient that just feels good on the skin, is super well tolerated by every skin type and easy to formulate with.

With emphasis placed firmly on creating the perfect canvas, BECCA’s primer, illuminators and foundations blur together seamlessly, to help you achieve the ultimate, naturally-faultless skin-finish.and weightless coverage to facilitate an enviable, airbrushed effect – so you look naturally luminous (and absolutely flawless). It helps to blur any imperfections, and the Vitamin E helps to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Ever since I tried their Shimmering Perfectors for the first time a few years ago, this brand has stuck out to me as the go-to place to get your highlighter. I haven't used the backlight primer , so this may not be hugely helpful (have used the first light primer though) but the Lumene Instant Illumination in midnight sun seems to me to look very similar.A few weeks ago, I picked up the Becca Backlight Filter Face Primer at Sephora, and have been religiously using it ever since. It’s luminescent in a natural way, and it looks even more natural when foundation is applied on top; it gives a barely-there sheen that looks like your natural skin is glowing, especially on the high points of your face where you would normally place highlighter.

However, when Stashmatters told me that the Physician’s Formula Spotlight Illuminating Primer is a similar product to the Becca Backlight Priming Filter, I knew I had to try it.

I wear it underneath my Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup, which is a medium-coverage foundation that I apply with a makeup sponge, and you can still see the sheen peep through the foundation. It has enough coverage suitable to even out the skin nicely and I didn’t have to pack it on to get the coverage I wanted. It’s very suitable for those with dry skin, but those with an oily skin type may find there’s just too much shine for them. I used to be in LOVE with Becca’s backlight primer but as most of us know they went out of business, so I’m curious to know if anyone has recommendations on alternatives?

However, a friend of mine raved about how good this primer was, and I figured if a girl who’s not really into makeup makes the effort to point out a particular product, then it must be good. Of course, depending on the foundation, setting powder, and setting spray I use, my makeup lasted the whole day with this baby underneath. At first it still looked matte but after about 15 minutes, it looked like I had been drinking 8 glasses of water a day. Some may like this and wear it without foundation, but not to worry if it’s too shiny for your liking – your foundation applied on top will dull it significantly. In terms of primers though – this is one of the better ones I’ve tried in terms of smoothing the skin and creating a nice canvas for foundation, concealer and powder. I’ve never been a big fan of using face primers, but I have loved this one big time since it came into my collection last June.
