About this deal

This is truly a fabulous collection from a band that carved themselves out a piece of music history that will never be repeated. Hallstrom devised a style that included many close-ups of the band, particularly the girls, often shot in such a way that you look at one person’s profile while a straight on shot of another takes up most of the screen. Still, even then it was impossible to escape the brilliance of songs like 'Knowing Me Knowing You', 'Fernando', and of course 'Dancing Queen'. So join Agnetha, Benny, Bjorn, and Anni-Frid--a dazzling blond quartet--on their journey through pop ascension. Eagle”, shot in 1978, was the first video in which Hallstrom shot the group directly onto videotape, giving the clip a real video look that is a precursor to the look of ’80s videos.

Happy New Year”, filmed in Hallstrom’s apartment, is a depressing video, and the first real sign that the end is near. I would have ABBA going constantly full blast on my Stereo, and driving my Mother and Brother crazy. The compilation does contain a rare bonus track version of 'Voulez-Vous' which is a 1979 US promo extended remix. The DVD also includes “When I Kissed the Teacher”, a clip for a song not released a single, three Spanish language versions of videos, and a version of “Dancing Queen” lip synched at the gala tribute to Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf on the eve of his wedding. Made at a time when MTV didn't exist and very very artists produced ''promo clips'' - as they were known at the time - Abba have been hailed as pioneers in this field.

When I was a teenager in the 70's there was not much that was more 'uncool' than being a male teenege ABBA fan. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. And it’s not that the ABBA kids don’t look good, fashion sense excepted, it’s more that they look like actual, genuine people. Its almost like they have put most of the well known songs on here in poor quality and buried the rest in the archives which is a disgrace. DVD top surface is in VG condition DVD playing surface is in Good condition with scratches and scuffs . Dancing Queen”, shot in an actual discotheque introduces choreography (well, it’s just pointing, really) to the mix. Their trademark brightly colored spandex outfits were designed by Owe Sandstrom and his partner Lars Wigenius of Artist Dressing.

Most of the videos were made by award-winning director Lasse Hallstrom, who today is well-known for movies such as My Life As A Dog, What's Eating Gilbert Grape and The Cider House Rules. If you really hate them, you might still get some entertainment out of these videos, but there’s nothing here that will change your mind about them. Anyway, the songs need little commendation from me, watch, enjoy and wonder afresh why the late masterpiece 'Day before you came' wasn't as big a hit as most of the singles that preceded it. NO ANGEL EYES or LAY ALL YOUR LOVE ON ME and you could probably add another 20 tracks that should also be on here.

Take a look at the second clip, “Ring Ring”, featuring Agnetha in red hotpants and halter top played off against Frida’s snakeskin catsuit — I’m not even going to mention the guys’ outfits (suffice it to say that capes don’t really make it on guitarists). A really fun DVD if you're a die-hard ABBA fan (which I'm not especially, this was bought for a friend)! Her non-musical fans will probably enjoy 'Ring ring' - in which she sports red hot psnts and a cropped top - the most. Older fans who watched all these videos on TOTP growing up in the 70s can relive their youth (and admire the girls, as well as their music). That’s pretty far ahead of the curve, even though they were far from the only group to make promotional films before they became videos.

First, you have to remember that these films (or videos, if you prefer) were made between 1974 and 1982. The Very Best of Abba DVD, Greatest hits, 1970's pop music Not a new DVD but in great condition in a plain cover. As for the girls, Agnetha manages to look pretty despite a succession of unflattering costumes, some of which must have been fashion mistakes even in the 1970s.Nowadays, you can’t even make a video until you get to the point in your career where you’ve been totally made over and dressed by the record company. I would love to be able to get this album in Blu-ray format, but I don't think It will ever be done . To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Records that aren't in picture sleeves will either be in a company sleeve or a generic plain sleeve.
