About this deal

I have picked up two sets so far – I recently rebuilt my original Beta I Command Base (6970-1) and to my surprise in the 35 years I’ve owned the set, I’ve only misplaced two parts (Part 3144, the antenna I know I broke by treading on it, the other part could be in another box). It’s a shame that Lego never followed up on the Space Squad with a set containing a red, black, and a proper blue astronaut, perhaps with a slightly more elaborate mini build to compensate for the missing 4th astronaut figure. It's not a challenge to rotate the lever once the base has been pressed down (or to remove the base afterwards), but it doens't pop loose on its own. For those that are unaware, each Classic Space minifigure colour denotes a specific role that each Spaceman specialises in … Green – mech pilots?

And then a couple of things happened: a couple of LEGO® Movie 2 sets arrived at home, and I was given a Lume Cube as a present. You can tell that the designers absolutely paid attention to all the little details such as bringing back the Space Seat which evokes so much nostalgia.

I hadn't gotten around to running the alphabet to check for potential names, but this means they have enough to round out the original Mondrian Five. By signing up you agree with this and confirm that you are over 13 years of age, or have the consent of a parent or guardian. They're going to have names in the movie, just like all of the mundane Town minifigs that were peppered across all the TLM sets a few years ago. This set appears to be working towards capturing the appeal of those early sets – particularly 885 Space Scooter and 886 Space Buggy.

Benny’s Space Squad is designed very much using the same design philosophy as The LEGO Movie 1’s Double-Decker Couch: Give the fans what they want in the most inexpensive set of the theme. By introducing a collection of new space explorers, in conjunction with some of the key elements of Classic Space, MOCs are being facilitated, with new shiny parts – not burnished by thirty years of loving play: slopes printed with the space logo, trans yellow windscreens and plates, rocket exhausts and so forth. Lunar buggies produced during the earliest years of Classic Space always included red wheels and that might have been an interesting feature here, although light bluish grey wheel hubs are more consistent with the broader colour scheme so probably look slightly better. The Green Classic Space minifigure was introduced with 2014’s Exo Suit, Rocket Boy was from 2017 and now in 2019 we have a brand new Pink entrant.

In many of the new LEGO Movie 2 sets, Benny is sporting some sort of robotic arm, but he looks pretty intact in this version. Contact Us LEGO, the LEGO logo, the Minifigure, and the Brick and Knob configurations are trademarks of the LEGO Group of Companies. Heads up for those in the US, UK and EU - today is your final day to score 2x Insider Points on all purchases! The set comes with a small spaceship, which is a great homage to the forms and aesthetics of Spaceships from the Classic Space Era with its triangular shape. There isn't a perfect blue spaceman in the movie, so they would have to shoehorn a character into the movie for a set with a perfect blue one to make sense.

It is not based directly upon a classic design but resembles that from 6891 Gamma V Laser Craft which also stands on a 2x2 dish and features a camera piece at its centre. The new ones seem slightly thicker from these pictures, presumably to prevent the kind of common damage to the original helmets that Benny exemplifies. On the subject of potential names for further characters in a continuation of this new Retro Space theme beyond the film, and having my memory jogged by a mention above of Mark Stafford, perhaps LEGO could do another tribute with a future spaceperson release named Nnenny!I "fixed" this by putting a spare 3L bar through the arms and camera piece and replacing the 1x2 plate in the back (the bar is in the way of one stud, then) by an old-style jumper plate, but that is not a solution when building a robot army. I hope we see more new colors of Classic Spacemen in the new movie and that they make more sets to coincide. I decided to ease in to 2019 with one of the smallest sets this year, but don’t let its size fool you, it’s already a very strong contender for Set of the Year. Secondly this seems like it would also work as a great crew and expansion pack for the Spaceship Spaceship SPACESHIP if you wanted to make it more tied to other Space sets rather than the Movie sets.

Compared to the original space sets of 1979, the slope with the printed classic space logo is blue, rather than grey and is a 4×2 slope rather than 3×2. LEGO 70841 Benny's Space Squad was a 68 piece The Lego Movie 2 The Second Part set with 5 minifigs released in 2019.Features a THE LEGO MOVIE 2 spaceship toy with a minifigure seat and a lunar buggy with 2 minifigure seats.
