About this deal

In this companion tie-in based on the award-winning documentary of the same name, scientific experts and spiritual leaders, along with real-life people in need of healing, demonstrate the body’s remarkable ability to heal itself. Carl Safina advocates that animals think and feel much like people do because, after all, people are animals. Weaving decades of field observations with exciting new discoveries about the brain, Carl Safina's landmark book offers an intimate view of animal behavior to challenge the fixed boundary between humans and nonhuman animals.

Safina is persuasive enough to convince anyone but the most rigid that "mere animals" share much with us, in terms of intelligence, emotions, sense of humor, and individuality- not to mention social groups and ties. They are designed to help the reader make sense of what is happening to them or someone they know who is ill. Extremely sensitive and unimaginably strong, they can pick up an egg without breaking it-or kill you with an easy smack. I'm sure the elephants here are sensing much more than I; this is their home, and they have a history here. Our picture stories do provide information, but the main aim of the books is to open up conversations, conversations that make it possible to check for understanding, support decision-making, share past experiences, prepare for new ones, and explore feelings. We could remove most of that extra stuff, keep the animal stories and important information, and reduce the book by 50%. I especially liked the parts where Carl had scientific evidence to support his findings, things like sounds and music and how animals respond was one of the exceptional things I’ve read. Several people with learning disabilities, including Nigel, are long term volunteers with the charity and involved in many aspects of its work including training people to start new book clubs. Similar stories and observations apply to examples of the female leaders of a wolf pack and a killer whale pod, but longevity of killer whales puts them more in line with the elephants for their memory as a cultural repository and survival benefit for the family. He has a PhD in ecology from Rutgers University and holds the chair for Nature and Humanity at Stony Brook University.

So often when I recommend a non fiction book I like it because it reads like a novel, and not like a textbook. Over the period that we were following Echo's family-she was about forty-five years old at the time-I saw that Enid was incredibly loyal to her, Eliot was the playful one, Eudora was flaky, Edwina was unpopular, and so on. It was built off the backbone of evolution, we are not supremely unique in our ability to form bonds with other individuals of the same species. There are four other scenarios in this book: Being Examined, Injection, Blood Test, and Prescription, while the text at the back of the book includes a Guide for Supporters/Informants, and a Guide for GPs and the Primary Care Team. This book echoes a lot of what I already feel, has taught me so much more, and has reaffirmed what an amazing planet we live on.Safina's engaging writing takes readers along on his journey, so that we learn about these creatures as he does. Nel corso della storia umana, le civiltà si sono protratte nel tempo, sviluppando tecnologie sempre più avanzate, per migliorare, apparentemente, la propria vita. Beyond Words, though, is certainly the best place to start and gives a truely excellent appreciation of the rapidly developing field of animal behaviour and is written superbly. If you believe in evolution, you'll know that nothing just springs out of no where, nature and biology build on itself.

Some of the conclusions drawn in reference to dog behavior are briefly referred to in Safina's book. This book is designed to support people like Veronica, who become unwell and are diagnosed as having cancer.Beyond Words is among the best books of a new bloodline of non-fiction that dissects modern ails from a position of dismay or bafflement. Another day, when the vehicle appeared with a special door designed for filming, elephants came exploring, actually touching the new door with their trunks. In this mind-bending book, Safina takes the reader along with him on his adventures, enlightening and educating at each of his stops. In addition, children without intellectual disabilities will continue to appreciate both books, which adopt a more direct approach to death than usual.
