About this deal

If it gets scratched, broken, or lost you’re only out a few dollars rather than a larger chunk of change. It would dry up from one day to the next so I had to "exercise" it every time I picked it up in the morning. My x450 had serious flow issues but after a thorough flush out worked great too (a common problem I’ve read).

The cap has a large lacquered and domed top button, and a very well designed and sturdy chrome plated pocket clip. The cap features a thick band of silver trim which is real metal and is embossed with "Jinhao" on one side and "X750" on another, with a tribal-like design in between. It is easily the biggest nib in my collection and the only ones that match it are probably the nibs from a Pelikan M1000 or other such high-end fountain pen. The cap band is also wide and is imprinted with "Jinhao" to the front and the model number "X750" to the rear. There really are eight horses cavorting over a field and a poem in Chinese characters across the top. But the nib is smooth and I found that if you stick it in a Noodler's Ahab it makes for a very wet, smooth writing nib. The balance is good as long as you don't post the cap but if you do, most of the weight will be shifted to the top which makes it very awkward to hold. Secondly, I liked the checkered design and I’ve realized that more recent models of this style have a higher quality pattern.

Your experiences ring familiar with others I have read and it’s the reason I haven’t tried one until now. I have another flex nib from FPR and can clearly read my bad handwriting if I do not flex it and use the fine nib. I read a review dating from 2011 if I remember the date correctly and the checkered pattern looked dull, faded, and had the corners rounded right out of the box. I glued it back on and shaved down the ridge inside of the cap to reduce the pull needed to remove the cap.As with any fountain pen, if the pen is not used regularly the ink will dry out and you may have to get the ink flowing again. The grip is smooth black plastic with a rounded reinforcing ring at the end where the nib inserts into the grip. The nib unscrews This style seems to be one of the harder ones to get ink moving on for me, but doing so isn't overly difficult.
