Merser Signature is a genuine and beautifully balanced smooth Golden Rum with hints of tropical fruits as well as butterscotch and an oaky sweetness. The rum is a blended rum in London first for decades but starts with very young oak notes, adds in the almonds and then finishes with charcoal . Award-winning Merser seeks out the world’s finest rums, then blends them in London to bring out their individual characteristics in perfect harmony. Elegant, distinctive and wonderfully smooth, its personality will shine through with your mixer of choice. According to James Hayman, his family was involved in the rum trade and blending over 100 years ago.

Merser Double Barrel brings together the finest Caribbean rums aged up to twelve years, before they are blended and rested for six months in London. On the nose, you will find an alluring vanilla sweetness with flashes of vibrant tropical fruit and a wonderful toasty oak character. Nice color, smell like fruit with hint of vanilla smooth, taste is good, cream and sweet but with hint of fruit, end is nice and smooth. Merser Rum is bottled directly from the barrel and has no additional colour or sweetener added to it.

Not a bad rum to enjoy in the evening with a friend, when you don't want to bring out the really good stuff! Personally I’m a fan of full-bodied “Navy style” multi-island blends with rums from Barbados, Jamaica and Guyana, but I just tried two brands in one week ( Golden Heist Rum and this one) that contain rums from Dominican Republic, Barbados and Jamaica and I’m not hating it. Palate Creamy and elegant, with stone fruit to the fore and the Jamaican funk present but very much in the background. In keeping with the traditions set by London's merchant blending houses of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, there's no sugar or colouring to be seen here, just good old fashioned rum rested in oak.

The bottle represents more than meets the eye too, with the dimpled bottle representing the River Thames on which rum was transported, while the hound and post logo is a little nod to the days when most Londoners couldn't read, and would follow symbols to find their way to merchant houses. Before all the world went into lockdown a few years ago, Ive tasted this in Canary Wharf Waitrose and loved it. While we have taken care in preparing this summary and believe it is accurate, it is not a substitute for your reading the product packaging and label prior to use. To create our Signature blend, we carefully select the finest Rums from Barbados, Jamaica, Dominican Republic and Trinidad. It may not be reproduced in any way whatsoever without the prior consent of Waitrose Limited nor without due acknowledgement.
