About this deal

The issue I had was more that we get one (ONE) kiss between Fitz and Elle and it's immediately followed by her being convinced that he's a murder. Schade’s world building shines in these pages and I quickly found myself drawn into this world and these characters. The h barely even thinks about the H, she’s so consumed with her mission of finding her father and then the whole thing with Cordelia. The characters, the mystery, the slow burn tension, and world building are immersive and spell bounding. I also really enjoyed seeing how Elle grapples with being accepted by the land to wield the power Fitz has bestowed on her.

Shade's Castle of Dusk and Shadows last year but had been waiting for it to come out in audiobook to give it a re-read with that extra level of entertainment! I actually enjoyed this so much, and I'm devastated we don't get more of Fitz and Elle 😭 I just want to see what the rest of their life is like, ugh.Lastly, the grief theme that is woven in these pages is heart wrenching and feels so raw and vulnerable. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

Desperate to bring him back to life, she stumbles upon a plot involving the murder of a Fae Princess and the mystery of how her 'family heirloom' locket from her own father plays a part in grand scheme of things. After the sudden death of her Father, a messenger from the Fae Queen arrives, informing the family that they must attend the Ashwood castle, home of the Fae, for the remainder of their human lives. I honestly have realized that I am someone who loves the tension of slow burn but hates the wait, again I am impatient, but the wait is so worth it. The tension between Fitz and Elle was great, and in true PnP fashion he falls first and fights it, and she despises what he stands for, or rather what she THINKS he stands for.Ok, here’s the deal…I generally liked the book, so maybe more than 3 stars, and I know it’s YA, so I also understand the general angstiness of the female protagonist, but OMG! I wasn't sure I was going to like Fitz at first (he showed a few red flag tendencies that are not my favorite), but luckily he redeemed himself and the romance turned very lovely and sweet, even with all the ghosts and necromancy and stuff that I normally don't read (but ended up loving how it was handled in this book! This FMC is a truly distasteful person, in both her behavior and character, and combined with the single-sided POV, the writing was hard to stay focused on.
