About this deal

Over the years they share their lives with Douglas and then Baby Jane, beloved dogs that rule the roost and eat a large amount of pastries.

In fact, Sunshine just seems to know a lot of things about Therese and also about the owners of the lost things. Our team is made up of book lovers who are dedicated to sourcing and providing the best books for kids. We all looked forward to reading The Keeper Of Lost Things as the concept of the story sounded interesting, however the majority of the group felt disappointed by this novel for different reasons. Very much a ‘light read’, we thought – but an interesting subject, well written, and the characters were good, Sunshine and Laura especially. The group felt that Laura in particular wasn't a very likeable character as she was quite self absorbed and self pitying. The main issue that was discussed was the struggle to juggle the numerous characters and storylines.

But once I got the hang of it, especially the back stories on some of the lost items, it clipped along at a nice pace. Throughout the novel, we are treated to random flashbacks into the history of some of the missing treasures. There’s even a familiar supernatural presence that has unfinished business - not in a horror context but to finally complete a particular task. The Keeper of Lost Things is a lovely story about the things and people we lose and the possibility of finding them again. Added to that Sunshine's preternatural capabilities, a TERRIBLE, predictable and sickly-sweet plot, not to mention another 15,000 similes and cliches .

Her own success is an inspiration within itself, as this authoress was older when her first book was published. It is “holiday read” material rather than a deep and meaningful work of literature, but I don’t have a problem with that. Psychological realism, whimsy and magic are a winning combination in this quirky, exquisitely crafted novel. As the dark cloud engulfing her lifts, Laura, accompanied by her new companions, sets out to realize Anthony’s last wish: reuniting his cherished lost objects with their owners.

The Keeper of Lost Things” is, in my opinion, a mediocre and sentimental love story that operates with superficial characters and unbelievable scenes. This was a joy to read - I haven't enjoyed a book this much since I first read Lord of the Rings back in the 70s. From the attention-grabbing opening paragraph, to the joyful conclusion, Ruth Hogan has stirred together a charming fairy tale in which the people may be more lost than the things; and generosity and compassion may be the key to finding a way home. Brokenhearted and torn with guilt, Anthony sought redemption by rescuing lost objects, such as buttons, puzzle pieces, and a menagerie of other misplaced items, and cataloguing them in his study in the hopes that these missing treasures might someday find a way back to whoever lost them. It's a quiet but beautifully intricate novel that will remind readers that we are each other's points of connection.I loved the symbolic representation of these lost items, and how they resemble each character’s journey to finding their own way; their own home.

Hogan's touching, funny and romantic debut is that rare and precious thing: a real story with brilliant characters - Daily Mail You may also be interested in. Hardly any plot and metaphors as far as the eye can see, and bland characters that "need to be saved" because they have some mental health issues or might have made a mistake in the past. The title is bold white font in the centre of the cover and Ruth’s name is in a smaller white font at the bottom of the cover. She does a really great job at helping the reader be present in the story and actually imagine being there with the characters. I was brought up in a house full of books, and grew up with an unsurprising passion for reading and writing. The descriptions of Alzheimers were appreciated as being ‘beautifully done though not avoiding the sadness and misery it causes to both sufferer and loved ones’.
