About this deal

The Pro version, reviewed here, comes with the basic attachments and the illuminated floor head, but doesn’t have the mini motorised tool. However, it does come with a second battery, a separate battery charger, and two extra rollers that you can swap out for the standard brush roller in the main floor head. These are a secondary, softer carpet brush roller for delicate carpets, and a soft roller for hard floor. Miele's new Triflex brushless motor is made in Germany and gives the Triflex HX2 a 60% increase in performance compared to the previous model. This new motor coupled with our Vortex technology, makes the Triflex HX2 Miele's most powerful vacuum cleaner EVER. This vacuum cleaner can be assembled in three different ways, adjusting where the main vacuum cleaner sits for each one, giving more comfort whether you’re using it handheld, as a regular cleaner or to get more reach. Design and features READ NEXT: Our full round-up of the best vacuum cleaners you can buy Miele Triflex HX2 Pro review: What’s it like to use? During testing, the vacuum made light work of collecting fine dust and larger debris, including cereal from carpets and hard floors. It also converts into a portable vacuum simply by lifting out the main body to ensure you can easily clean stairs, upholstery, and up-high. We also found it glided well on both short-pile carpet and hard floors.

What’s important with day-to-day cleaning is the power of the floor head. The motorised roller is designed to agitate dirt, so that it can easily be lifted away. A more powerful head can make up for lower suction, as was the case here. This is Miele's most powerful vacuum cleaner. It boasts some fine-tuned spec over it's predecessor - Miele HX1 Cat&Dog - with a Digital Efficiency Motor, longer battery runtime and being an overall lighter piece of kit, so it gets our vote for the best premium upright vacuum. We rate each model on how simple it is to empty the dust canister, how loud it is during use, and how durable it is. In addition, for those with batteries, we assess how long they last between charges, while for corded models, we evaluate the length of the power cord. However, our reviewer was disappointed there was only one power level, as she’d like to have been able to adjust the suction force, particularly on deep pile carpets, as you may find the vacuum hard to manoeuvre. It’s also a bulky appliance, which may cause storage issues for some.Is once a week really enough to keep your floors as clean as possible, or should you be vacuuming every couple of days? For those without one of the best robot vacuums on hand to help out, it's a hard question to answer. Meanwhile, Upright vacuums are bulkier and heavier, making them harder to push around your floors. As you'd expect given the name, the floor cleaning head is attached to a tall unit that holds the motor and dust canister or bag, with a handle usually at waist height or slightly above - so you can clean your floors without having to hunch over. Note that the vacuum's 0.5-litre dust container is small. Our upstairs wool carpets are relatively new, so we found that we were having to empty the container at least once between vacuuming that floor and the stairs and ground floor. The dust container also proved a little fiddly to empty; you need to remove the dust canister from the main unit and then twist open the lid to remove the filter and dirt. According to Miele, the TriflexHX2 Prois 60% more powerful than its predecessor, the Triflex HX1 – a model that had already impressed for its power in our review. This improvement comes by way of the new Digital Efficiency Motor, which works in combination with Miele’s Vortex technology (mono-cyclone design) and Multi-Floor XXL Electrobrush to deliver exceptional cleaning power. The rotating beater (or brush bar) links with intelligent detection of floor type to reduce the rotational speed on hard floors. This, Miele says, saves energy and prolongs battery life; but we found that it also goes some way towards protecting soft wooden flooring. The feature also automatically determines the speed setting required, depending on the type of flooring.

We also look at how easy it is to convert into a handheld or more portable cleaner, the valuable tools and accessories it comes with to clean edges or removes pet hair, and whether the instructions are clear and concise. Best upright vacuum FAQs What to consider when buying an upright vacuum

Other accessories are an upholstery nozzle, crevice tool, furniture brush, mini turbo brush, two multi-use wet pads, two single-use wet pads, two dust bags, an angle tool and an additional battery. In the box you will also find an all-in-one clean station and an accessory cradle with battery charger, which is able to store all the tools that come with the vacuum. Although the most expensive Miele cordless vacuum we've tested is not cheap by any means, it's still significantly cheaper than the priciest Samsung cordless vacuum. However, Samsung Bespoke Jet comes with a lot of useful extras such as the wet cleaning mode and an additional battery. They also come with a digital display, a flexi tube (Jet 75 Pet) and an extra soft roller floorhead (Jet 70 Complete). Through testing, the Triflex HX2 Pro measured in between 54dB – 58dB for noise, as we slid through the power settings using the floorhead. This is noticeably quieter than the level recorded when using the accessories, which we measuredat between 5dB – 63dB. The expected noise level for a vacuum cleaner is around 70dB, so the Miele Triflex HX2 Pro is less likely to irritate, if noise is important to you.

We recommend vacuuming most floors once a week while increasing this to twice a week in high-traffic areas such as hallways and doorways. Especially if you have carpet, as the longer dust is left, the more it becomes embedded in the fibers making it hard to thoroughly clean. The floor cleaner here is similar to those seen on Dyson cleaners, in that it automatically detects the floor type and reduces rotational speed on hard floors to save energy and prolong battery life. However, in the Trfle HX2 Pro, this feature is only available on the Eco and Max power settings with the Multi-Floor XXL Electrobrush is fitted. In the box, you'll also find a crevice nozzle, dusting brush, upholstery nozzle. If you have hard floors, look for an upright vacuum with different floor modes, which see the brush roller switched off, so it doesn’t damage the flooring, or for models that come with an additional cleaning head featuring a softer brush roll designed for this purpose. We were disappointed there were no LEDs on the floor cleaning head - a feature offered by some vacuums on this list - making cleaning easier when cleaning in dark spaces under furniture. It's also bulky, meaning it may be a problem to store. That said, this is the best on the market right now when it comes to upright vacuums.
